Holidays Made Perfect
Teammates, once again the holidays are here, and for many of us, the holidays are a potluck of mixed emotions from joy and happiness to stress and sadness. For me, the holidays are an Awesome time of year – I love seeing my boys getting all amped-up about Santa, reconnecting with old friends, and of course great bonding with buddies and my bride and my family. However, without fail, I run into folks that don’t feel the same way I do about the holidays…that’s fine – it’s their call…and that’s what I want to remind you about.
Whether it’s the holidays or rainy Monday in March, how you feel isn’t someone else’s decision – it’s 100% yours to make – from sun up to way past sun down, your attitude is in your possession. It’s yours to rev up or run down. We don’t control much in our lives, but this is one we do control (along with what we feed our brains and body!) – and I say there’s no time like the present to take control of your attitude atoms and light them up with some positive energy!!!
Let’s face it, this year hasn’t been easy, but how much harder has it been for our troops in harm’s way or for folks living on a street or in countries where freedom doesn’t exist??? The list – what I call the perspective list – can go on and on…starting to feel sorry for yourself? Make yourself an little perspective list – write down some thoughts of things that represent much worse conditions than the condition you’re experiencing. Gaining perspective is the simplest way for you to jump start those attitude atoms into a positive frame of mind.
Bah-humbug you say – why bother?? Think about, people attract like minded people. Unhappy people glom onto more unhappy people. We have a saying in SEAL Team: “Misery loves company.” Guess what, the same is true for those that have the Fire in their belly…and they have more fun! I guarantee it! (some even say they live longer!)
This holiday season give your friends and family the best present you can give – give them you in all your Fired Up glory! They’ll catch your spirit and you’ll create memories that with last a lifetime!
