Urban Survival Water Purification

One of the most basic survival requirements is water.

Every human being needs water to survive, and water is one necessity for urban survival and wilderness survival that you simply cannot carry with you in sufficient quantity.

It is too heavy to carry the amount of drinking water you would need for a long-term urban survival situation.

This means that you have to be able to drink water that you find.

While finding sources of water, and collecting water, could be a topic all by itself, the question remains:

How do you make water safe to drink once you have found it?

So, You Want to be a NINJA?

I get a lot of emails from my readers literally from all over the world, asking me about authentic Ninja Martial Arts training. Even though there are 100,000 plus practitioners of Ninjutsu on the planet, there are still relatively few quality instructors actively teaching.

If you’re serious about training in Ninjutsu the first thing you should do is own and study the DVD’s and books of Dr.Masaaki Hatsumi. Hatsumi Sensei is the sole Head Master (Soke) of the last living Ninjutsu traditions (Ryu Ha). It’s always best to go to the source and Hatsumi Sensei is THE SOURCE of authentic Ninja Martial Arts (Ninpo/Ninjutsu/Taijutsu) training.

Simple Bodybuilding Supplements That Work!

Best Bodybuilding Supplements

Accelerated advancements in muscle building over the past few years have sparked a surge in supplements to help bodybuilders achieve better results faster.

However, unless you’re a lab geek, it’s virtually impossible to keep up with what’s really working, what’s hype, and whether it’s a good fit for your muscle-building program.

Fact is, “muscle-building” covers a pretty large area yet there are several factors that go into optimizing your growth…

…and the best bodybuilding supplements support each of those factors.

Yoshiaki Fujiwara: Submission Master

The legendary Karl Gotch (1924–2007), the “God of Catch Wrestling” called Yoshiaki “Kumicho” Fujiwara his best student ever. Ultimate Fighters Visit Atterbury

Soldiers, Marines and civilians turned out for a glimpse of and a little hands-on training with Ultimate Fighters Chris “Lights Out” Lytle and Matt “Meathead” Mitrione at the Post Gym Sept. 20. The fighters spent their time here giving an instructional seminar on combatives and signing autographs for fans.

The event, which was sponsored by the Camp Atterbury Better Opportunity for Single Soldiers program and the Morale, Welfare and Recreation office, let UFC fans get up close and personal with the fighters.

Lytle, who retired from the sport Aug. 14, said he feels any time he gets to visit with Soldiers is a great honor.

“I love the country that we live in. I think the people who put their lives on the line to defend it for us, you can’t say enough about them,” he said. “I was fortunate enough to go over to Walter Reed this year to visit some of the injured troops there, and it was amazing to me how they were so gracious and thanking me for what I do. It was just so humbling for me to think ‘You guys are giving the ultimate sacrifice losing limbs. I’m in the ring fighting and that’s nothing in comparison’.”

Watch “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead”

One hundred pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from chronic urticaria, a debilitating autoimmune disease, Australian business man Joe Cross is at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. In the mirror he saw a 310 lb. man whose gut was bigger than a beach ball and a path laid out before him that wouldn’t end well– with one foot already in the grave, the other wasn’t far behind.

FAT, SICK & NEARLY DEAD is an inspiring film that chronicles Joe’s personal mission to regain his health. With doctors and conventional medicines unable to help him, Joe turns to the only option left, the body’s ability to heal itself. He trades in the junk food and hits the road with a juicer, vowing only to drink water and freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juice for the next sixty days. A “reboot,” he calls it.

Sumo For MMA

Presently, the four primary arts that are used in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) are Western Boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jujutsu and Greco Roman Wrestling. There are some competitors that have successfully blended in Catch Wrestling, such as Kazushi Sakuraba and Ken Shamrock or Judo, such as Karo Parisyan and Kim Dong Hyun. I know that as MMA evolves there will be many other arts that will be thrown into the mix. Arts such as Japanese Taijutsu, Filipino Dumog and Indonesian Silat have a lot of merit. Surprisingly, I believe that the Japanese sport of Sumo would be a great addition into the mix of MMA.

Multitask Your Workout With Combo Moves

Are you ready for a really effective, time-efficient workout?

Multitasking is something we do in everyday life, and it can be applied to our fitness routine by combining muscles in the upper– and lower-body at the same time, while the core kicked in to help us balance. These three moves work biceps, shoulders, chest, upper back and triceps along with quads, glutes, hamstrings and calves, while tightening your core!

With cardio intervals, these moves give you part of a complete workout. For more like these, visit www.nikkifitness.com for my DVDs.

Practice Evidence Based Martial Arts

There’s a whole lot of cult like weirdness in the Martial Arts world. It’s often times very hard to discern the efficacy of techniques, so many of them are steeped in urban legends, mis– and dis-information and just outright lies. So how are we to make our way through the myriad of methods that “master” teachers tell us will effortlessly defeat the bad guys and protect our lives? By using empirical evidence based procedures.

Let’s break down what I mean by “empirical evidence based procedures.” “Empirical” means “of the senses,” for our purposes as martial artists , this means primarily the visual (sight)and kinesthetic (feeling) senses. “Evidence” is empirically observed results. And “procedures” mean a well thought out methodical process. Another way of saying this is that we are going to apply the SCIENTIFIC METHOD to our martial arts training.

The Power of Supersets

Does your workout routine ever get stale? Is it because you do the same exercise(s) day in and day out and it lacks variety? Is it because you feel you don’t have as much time as you would like to get to everything you want to do? Or is it because you feel like you’re not making the progress you hoped to see? If you answered yes to one or more of the questions above, try adding supersets to your workout regimen. Doing a workout with supersets will increase your fitness level, strength, and power, while adding variety to your routine, and decreasing your workout time. Sounds like a no-brainer, right?

Heart Attack Proof Yourself

What if I told you that there was a killer loose that is the number one cause of death globally: more people die annually at the “hands” of this killer than from any other cause. Would you want to stop this killer from his murderous rampage? Yes, of course you would. Would you do anything in your power to stop him? I hope so. What is this killer? It’s Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD).

What are cardiovascular diseases? Heart attacks and strokes are usually acute events and are mainly caused by a blockage that prevents blood from flowing to the heart or brain. The most common reason for this is a build-up of fatty deposits on the inner walls of the blood vessels that supply the heart or brain.

Watch “Sons of Guns” Season One

“Sons of Guns” is a reality television series that airs on the Discovery Channel. The series centers on owners Will Hayden and his daughter Stephanie who manufacture and sell custom weapons at Red Jacket Firearms. Red Jacket Firearms, located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was opened in 1999. The show practices a degree of self-censorship and safety-consciousness. Each episode begins with a staff member (usually Will) warning viewers not to try anything demonstrated on the show at home. In addition, during scenes of catastrophic failure, the crew will remind the audience not to try anything at home. The program also makes a noted point to avoid showing specific detail of how weapon modifications or fabrications are performed.

Breakthrough In How To Naturally Increase Testosterone!

I’m always on the lookout for new discoveries in the fields of exercise, nutrition, and sports supplementation.

This week, I came across a powerful study that revealed some incredible new research in how to raise testosterone naturally.

You see, most bodybuilders know that that creatine monohydrate increases muscle mass, strength, and power.

That’s not even debatable, right?

A Warm-Up for Warriors: Salute to the Slimnastics Warm-Up

The warm up is essential to your workout so that you don’t get injured by diving in too fast. You can’t do many push-ups with a pulled biceps muscle, so you’ll protect future workouts and improvements if you take five minutes before you work out each day. You can also protect yourself from injury by checking with a doctor before trying this or any other workout.

Yoga-based SUN SALUTATIONS are a great way to warm up, especially if you don’t have 10 minutes a day to sit on the floor and meditate. The breathing with sun salutations de-stresses you while the moves prepare your muscles for work. One breath=one movement.

My 9–11 Experience

Yesterday was the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It is often said that people remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when President Kennedy was shot. It seems that that the events of 9/11 have had a similar effect on our culture.

I remember the events of that day and the aftermath very well. I grew up in a town on Long Island, New York just 40 miles east of Ground Zero. I was on East Main Street in Huntington Village in my car listening to Howard Stern when the first plane hit one of the Twin Towers. Howard reported that a plane had hit one of the towers, but it sounded like he didn’t believe it. When the second plane hit he definitely believed it and his whole staff freaked out. It was then that I realized that my Mom was on a plane headed to New York from Florida. I called my Dad and my sister to find out what was going on, they didn’t have any information. As you might imagine, I was greatly concerned.

Taijutsu and Systema

SYSTEMA “The System” is a Russian Martial Art said to have been used by Joseph Stalin’s personal bodyguards as well as Spetsnaz and GRU operatives. I’ve watched nearly all of Vladimir Vasiliev DVD’s and was immediately impressed with how similar Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu and Systema are. Vladimir Vasiliev is the senior most teacher of Systema outside of Russia, he’s based in Toronto, Canada.

Building Muscle Mass: How Many Reps?

A lot of people who are going to the gym for building muscle mass get this wrong…

They confuse “bodybuilding training” with “strength training”.

But training to build muscle and training to gain strength is NOT the same thing my friend!

Don’t get me wrong…strength training will make you stronger and it will help you pack on a little more size.

But if you’re trying to pack on LOTS of extra muscle, this type of training will actually hold you back from maximizing your muscle gains.
