One of the most basic survival requirements is water.
Every human being needs water to survive, and water is one necessity for urban survival and wilderness survival that you simply cannot carry with you in sufficient quantity.

Lytle, who retired from the sport Aug. 14, said he feels any time he gets to visit with Soldiers is a great honor.
“I love the country that we live in. I think the people who put their lives on the line to defend it for us, you can’t say enough about them,” he said. “I was fortunate enough to go over to Walter Reed this year to visit some of the injured troops there, and it was amazing to me how they were so gracious and thanking me for what I do. It was just so humbling for me to think ‘You guys are giving the ultimate sacrifice losing limbs. I’m in the ring fighting and that’s nothing in comparison’.”

Presently, the four primary arts that are used in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) are Western Boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jujutsu and Greco Roman Wrestling. There are some competitors that have successfully blended in Catch Wrestling, such as Kazushi Sakuraba and Ken Shamrock or Judo, such as Karo Parisyan and Kim Dong Hyun. There’s a whole lot of cult like weirdness in the Martial Arts world. It’s often times very hard to discern the efficacy of techniques, so many of them are steeped in urban legends, mis– and dis-information and just outright lies. So how are we to make our way through the myriad of methods that “master” teachers tell us will effortlessly defeat the bad guys and protect our lives? By using empirical evidence based procedures.
Let’s break down what I mean by “empirical evidence based procedures.” “Empirical” means “of the senses,” for our purposes as martial artists , this means primarily the visual (sight)and kinesthetic (feeling) senses. “Evidence” is empirically observed results. And “procedures” mean a well thought out methodical process. Another way of saying this is that we are going to apply the SCIENTIFIC METHOD to our martial arts training.
Does your workout routine ever get stale? Is it because you do the same exercise(s) day in and day out and it lacks variety? “Sons of Guns” is a reality television series that airs on the Discovery Channel. The series centers on owners Will Hayden and his daughter Stephanie who manufacture and sell custom weapons at Red Jacket Firearms. Yesterday was the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It is often said that people remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when President Kennedy was shot. It seems that that the events of 9/11 have had a similar effect on our culture.
I remember the events of that day and the aftermath very well. I grew up in a town on Long Island, New York just 40 miles east of Ground Zero. I was on East Main Street in Huntington Village in my car listening to Howard Stern when the first plane hit one of the Twin Towers. Howard reported that a plane had hit one of the towers, but it sounded like he didn’t believe it. When the second plane hit he definitely believed it and his whole staff freaked out. It was then that I realized that my Mom was on a plane headed to New York from Florida. I called my Dad and my sister to find out what was going on, they didn’t have any information. As you might imagine, I was greatly concerned.
SYSTEMA “The System” is a Russian Martial Art said to have been used by Joseph Stalin’s personal bodyguards as well as Spetsnaz and GRU operatives. I’ve watched nearly all of Vladimir Vasiliev DVD’s and was immediately impressed with how similar Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu and Systema are. Vladimir Vasiliev is the senior most teacher of Systema outside of Russia, he’s based in Toronto, Canada.
A lot of people who are going to the gym for building muscle mass get this wrong…
They confuse “bodybuilding training” with “strength training”.
But training to build muscle and training to gain strength is NOT the same thing my friend!
Don’t get me wrong…strength training will make you stronger and it will help you pack on a little more size.
