NikkiFitness Holiday Gift Guide
Three products that make working out better: NikkiFitness Holiday Gift Guide
Listen: Some people love the sound of their heart pounding, the birds chirping, the treadmill whirling. Others like a distraction to get the through their workout.
If you need audio help to get you through those extra few minutes at the gym or on the run to shed those extra pounds, try listening to audio books! While print books can be too difficult to scan while moving about (I personally think that if you can read a book or magazine while on the bike or treadmill you are not working hard enough!), audio books let the narrator do all of the work, while you enjoy the benefits of an enthralling story and extra calorie burning!
I recently tried some books on CD (burned to my iphone) from Macmillan audio to replace Madonna, Beyonce, and the like, and was pleasantly surprised by the way it propelled me though a workout. The time flew by and I was able to keep up a good pace while paying attention to the story.
It actually made me crave my next workout to see what happened next! Average price: 20–40 dollars. http://us.macmillan.com/Audio.aspx
Motivate: Words to Sweat By
As a personal trainer and fitness class instructor, I love to inspire my clients/participants. One way is to wear your inspiration. For my personal workouts, I need a little extra help. I usually put on my workout clothes and throw on some fast paced music to get me in the mood if I am sluggish.
If that sounds like you, one way to increase the inspiration, is with words. On your shirt. Words to sweat by lets me inspire class participants and myself at the same time.
They already launched towels that I love, with sayings like “one more rep and the cupcake is gone,” but on a shirt, you see it reflected back throughout your routine.
My new favorite T: “Healthy. Strong. Happy.” Average price: 20 dollars. www.wordstosweatby.com
Perform: You’ve got your music and your uniform. Now for the shoes. These might be the most important component to your workout. These are your energy from outside. These can make you tired or energized.
I use some shoes to run in and others for fitness classes, and since I teach fitness classes, I need shoes that perform. I want you to have the same. I found some new sneakers that are easy to travel with, slip on and off, grip the road as you walk and perform as you take fitness classes! There is no tongue, so everything stays in place when you run.
The shoes, Nike 3.0, are like slippers-meet-track-shoe-spikes. Amazing. Once you wear them once you won’t want to take them off. I love the purple ones myself, for guys, go with sable and orange. Do the elliptical, take cardio sculpt, just don’t shower in them. Well, OK, maybe that would work too
But wait, they also talk to you.
You can download the Nike+ Fitness App for iPhone to track your speeds, distance, or exertion inside on a machine. Price: 90 dollars.
